The Monterey Peninsula includes Monterey, Carmel–by–the–Sea, Pacific Grove and famous Pebble Beach all within 5 miles of each other as well as Big Sur, a spectacular 26 mile coastal drive south of Carmel.
The Monterey Peninsula has been made famous by authors and artists such as John Steinbeck and Robinson Jeffers, who committed its beauty and lifestyles to manuscript or canvas. Monterey’s Fisherman’s Wharf and Cannery Row were immortalised in Steinbeck novels and today the city has one of the world’s most acclaimed aquariums. Carmel–by–the–Sea is one of the most beautiful destinations California’s Central Coast has to offer. Carmel is packed with art galleries, secret courtyards, all kinds of unique gift and galleries, as well as a multitude of wonderful places to dine.
