Hearst Castle should not be missed. William Randolph Hearst, one of America’s most influential 20th Century figures, created this enormous art–filled estate. If California wine is on your vacation agenda, there are more than 250 vineyards and 30 wineries in this region including the award–winning Paso Robles, Santa Ynez and Santa Maria. Cambria, a quaint seaside village just six miles south of world renowned Hearst Castle is an artist’s colony nestled in a forest of towering Monterey pines. Cambria offers visitors sophisticated restaurants, art galleries, antique and speciality shops and scores of nearby wineries. Pismo Beach is a seaside community located on the Pacific Ocean and is famous for having one of California’s longest and widest stretches of beach. The area provides visitors a host of recreational activities like kayaking, surfing, fishing, horseback riding and ATV riding right at the beach. Nearby, check out the local shops and outlets and championship golf courses.
San Luis Obispo is a charming mission town surrounded by a rich and varied landscape of great natural beauty. Located halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, this is a perfect stopover for your tour down Highway 1. There’s a quaint downtown and the world–famous San Luis Obispo farmers market held every Thursday evening is a popular event.
