Less than an hour from San Francisco is the start of California’s famed Wine Country leading into California’s stunning North Coast.
Napa Valley and Sonoma Country are two of the most famous wine growing regions in the world. Here, relax and enjoy the ‘good life’ with great places to stay and fun things to do. Napa has dozens of wineries and fine restaurants for tasting the best of Californian wines.
The countryside is beautiful with mustard flower covered hills, vast stretches of lush vineyards and black oak trees. Napa and other towns situated in the Valley feature quaint Main Streets with shopping, wine tasting and tours. Sonoma is known for its arts as well as its wine. Its unique downtown square is laid out in the old Spanish pueblo style with mission San Francisco de Solano, circa 1823. The northern Wine Country is dotted with hundreds of unique boutiques, art galleries, culinary schools and fine restaurants in and around Mendocino, Eureka, Sonoma, Santa Rosa and Healdsburg.
The rugged beauty of the northern coastline, stands in dramatic contrast to the peaceful grandeur of towering redwood forests. Walk through an ancient forest at Trees of Mystery, then visit the adjacent world–class Native American museum. Along Highways 1 and 101 (‘The Redwood Highway’) are the seaports of Elk, Mendocino and Eureka each offering an array of accommodation, fine dining, and arts and handicrafts unique to the region.
