Discover the sister islands of Sanibel and Captiva which offer stunning and unspoilt beach getaway vacations.
Sanibel Island
Connected to the mainland by a 3 mile causeway, Sanibel Island is truly a special place. The only ‘main’ road on Sanibel is Periwinkle Way which winds its way through the centre of the crescent shaped island lined with trees and bike paths. Biking is a favourite form of transport on Sanibel and is a great way to ease yourself into the unhurried pace. The ‘Ding’ Darling National Wildlife Refuge is a 5,000 acre preservation area which can be enjoyed via a scenic biking, walking or driving route. Shops and boutiques are tucked unobtrusively among tropical landscaping on Sanibel.
Captiva Island
Captiva is the sister island to Sanibel, both connected by a small bridge, and stretching for 5 miles to its northern tip. Captiva is a beach ‘village’ and a beautiful unspoilt destination. Tennis, golf, boating and fishing are popular — or just take a leisurely stroll at sunset on the crystal white sandy beach — do as much or as little as you please.
