South Louisiana has a rich culture all of its own with grand sugar plantation houses, Cajun music & food and French language.
The art of Cajun cooking was perfected inside plantation kitchens. Antebellum plantations like Oak Alley, Houmas House, Laura: A Creole Plantation and Evergreen to name but a few on the Greater River Road near Baton Rouge, offers a glimpse into the unique history of Louisiana.
Nature abounds in Louisiana’s swamps and bayous. Cypress Island/Lake Martin Swamp, near Lafayette, is famous for its impressive scenic beauty and wildlife. Take an eco–swamp tour and see classic Louisiana swamps with alligators, egrets, herons, bayous and ancient cypress trees covered with Spanish moss.
A trip to Arkansas wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Hot Springs where world–famous therma waters flow into the historic downtown district of the city. About a million gallons of the 143°F water issue forth daily from 47 hot springs!
The state capital, Little Rock, offers travellers so much to do with an impressive array of museums including the Clinton Library, scenic byways to drive and state parks and mountains for outdoor adventure. Upstate Eureka Springs offers old–world charm and timeless leisure.
